Thailand’s business climate improves in March

BANGKOK, April 1 (Xinhua) — Thai business sentiment improved slightly in March due to improved confidence, mainly in the manufacturing sector of various sectors, according to data released by the central bank on Monday.

According to the Bank of Thailand (BOT), the Southeast Asian country’s Business Sentiment Index (BSI) was recorded at 49.6 last month, up from 48.8 in February, attributed to improvements in the manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors.

The manufacturing index rose in several sectors, particularly in the rubber and plastics industries, thanks to China’s restocking of rubber products and growing demand for packaging products for consumer goods, said the BOT in a press release.

At the same time, the non-manufacturing index improved slightly, mainly driven by the wholesale trade sector performance sub-index.

The expected three-month BSI index stood at 51.9 in March, down from 53.5 a month earlier, due to a deterioration in confidence in production, total order books and performance , indicated the BOT.

These figures are based on a survey of 765 people from large and medium-sized companies, the central bank said.
