Reinhart has 2 goals, Sergei Bobrovsky makes 27 saves, Panthers beat Lightning 3-2 – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports | Fort Lauderdale

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Sam Reinhart scored two goals, Sergei Bobrovsky made 27 saves and the Florida Panthers beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Panthers coach Paul Maurice joined Scotty Bowman (2,141) and Barry Trotz (1,812) as the only NHL coaches to coach 1,800 games. He is sixth in wins with 837.

Aaron Ekblad also scored for the Panthers and Aleksander Barkov had three assists.

Nikita Kucherov scored his 300th goal and Michael Eyssimont scored the Lightning’s other goal. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 27 shots.

The Panthers won the Prince of Wales Trophy last year as the best team in the Eastern Conference, after Tampa Bay won it the previous three years.

Reinhart made it 2-0 early in the second period with a nice backhand pass from Evan Rodrigues.

After Kucherov scored 29 seconds into the third, Reinhart scored a shorthanded goal to give Florida a 3-1 lead at 3:11. Tampa Bay got within one 20 seconds later thanks to Eyssimont’s power play goal.

Kucherov, the NHL’s points leader, missed several shifts in the first period after being hit in the face with a stick.

Ekblad scored his first goal this season in the first half.

Shortly after Ekblad’s goal, Bobrovsky made four solid saves on Tampa Bay’s NHL power play. Bobrovsky also made a glove save on Brayden Point on a breakaway midway through the third.

Vasilevskiy kept the game within one goal with a pad save on Carter Verhaeghe’s power play rebound with four minutes remaining.

Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev participated in morning skate but missed his third straight game after taking a shot off the back of his left foot on Dec. 19.

Panthers: Host the New York Rangers Friday night.

Lightning: Continue a three-game homestand Saturday night against the Rangers.
