Joker 2: Trailer Release Date Revealed and Everything We Know

Joker 2, musical

Madness breeds madness – and in this case, audiences couldn’t be more excited about Joker 2or rather, Joker: Folie à Deux, which is the official title. 2019 Joker was one of the highest rated films of the 21st century, with critics and fans universally praising Joaquin Phoenix for his performance as well as director Todd Phillips. Phoenix won the Academy Award for Best Male Performance for his portrayal of the Joker, DC’s most famous and deadliest villain, and added to the legacy that the fictional character has built over the years (we (we recently made an epic episode of WTF Happened to this Film about this). And now, that legacy will continue to grow with a sequel.

But until now, everyone was wondering when we would finally get the chance to see footage from the film. Turns out we might have the answer, with famed scooper Daniel Richtman revealing that WB is going to release the trailer on April 9. Why this date? Well, it happens when CinemaCon takes place in Los Vegas, and most studios often take the opportunity to showcase images and trailers of their hot new films. Everyone attending the event (including us) will be eager to see something Joker: Folie à Deux, and while the footage isn’t always released online afterwards, in this case it probably will be. This makes sense since the movie comes out on October 4th, so they have to start the hype train one day.

But what else do we know about Joker: Folie à Deux? A lot!

First images:

Since the film began filming, Phillips has been generous with images teasing the look of Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn. Here’s a moody first photo of the two together:

The parcel

As indicated, Joker 2 won’t be released until the fall. So, with the film still so far away and with the production team wanting to keep the film a secret, audiences have been surprisingly little informed about what they can expect from the sequel in terms of plot. The little tidbits fans know are that Harley Quinn will play a big role in the film and at least part of it will take place in Arkham Asylum.

Another important piece of information about the film (which will most likely affect the plot in one way or another) is that the film will feature musical elements. The choice was reportedly made due to the dance-related themes incorporated into the first film (the Joker’s dance to Gary Glitter’s “Rock n’ Roll” was acclaimed), combined with the casting choice of Lady Gaga in the role of the infamous Harley Quinn. Gaga’s musical background undoubtedly played a role in choosing a more musical film, and her experience in acting and creating music made the choice a no-brainer.

The final piece of plot information is that fans should remember that this particular film, as well as its predecessor, are not part of James Gunn’s upcoming DCU and will therefore be in the category of DC Elseworlds – standalone projects set in the DC Universe. This is not new information like the original Joker was never part of the larger universe that DC tried and failed to create, but it’s worth noting nonetheless.

Joker: Folie à Deux – The casting

Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar and universal acclaim for his portrayal of the Joker. So it’s no surprise to anyone that he will return to play Arthur Fleck/The Joker for the sequel. One notable piece of information to consider is that thanks to Phoenix’s Oscar-winning performance, his salary for the sequel will be $20 million, compared to the $4 million he received for the original film.

However, as previously noted, the biggest addition to the sequel in terms of star power will be Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. Although Margot Robbie has played the character over the past decade in three separate DC projects, Robbie praised Gaga’s casting choice as Quinn and believes she will do an incredible job with the character, saying:

“I think she’s going to do an incredible job. I’m so excited. All I could have hoped for Harley is that she becomes one of those characters that, much like Batman or Hamlet, goes from actor to actor – anyone can try to play them. So, I feel like it’s just a credit to her as a character that people want to see her in multiple interactions. I’m excited.”

After Lady Gaga, other notable actors/actresses added to the cast are Jacob Lofland, Catherine Keener and Brenden Gleeson. Lofland will reportedly play an Arkham Asylum inmate, and it’s not yet clear who Keener and Gleeson will play. Another new name for the film is Harry Lawtey (star of HBO’s Industry) who has also been cast in an undisclosed role, however, it has been reported that his role will be a “big one” for the series.

Another name audiences will know is Zazie Beetz, who played Sophie in the first film. Joker movie. Although it was revealed that her relationship with Arthur was completely concocted in Arthur’s head, her overall fate was never revealed in the film. Additionally, although nothing has been officially confirmed, Zazie has publicly stated that she believes Sophie is still alive on the show. That being said, fans shouldn’t expect to see Zazie in the upcoming sequel, but it’s a very real possibility.

More images reveal Arkham Asylum

Just over the holidays, Todd Phillips gave fans another look at Joker: Folie à Deux posting a photo of Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck in his cell at Arkham Asylum, while the other showed Lady Gaga as Dr. Harleen Quinzel. To hell with them:

Release date :

Warner Bros. Joker: Folie à Deux scheduled for a release date of October 4, 2024. There is a good chance that it will follow the original film and premiere at the fall festival (probably Venice, perhaps also TIFF). Of course, that release date puts it squarely in the awards aisle, with the buzz being that it’s WB’s big Oscar movie for the year. Since Phoenix first won Best Actor Jokerexpect him to get a major Oscar campaign, while Gaga will undoubtedly be a huge contender for Best Actress.

A test screening of the film took place recently and GoldDerby shared the following reaction: “The rooms are chaotic for a reason. The parts are also surreal for a reason (and at least partly shot in B&W), the parts are bloody (the chaotic part). I can’t spoil how exactly. It’s also very political, as you would expect from the Joker franchise. The person I spoke with was very impressed, but be careful, that’s just a matter of opinion. Gaga is indeed the equal of Phoenix or even more central. No question of defrauding her by supporting her. From what I understand, he doesn’t call her Harley but a nickname derived from it. I guess this has created some confusion as to whether she plays Harley or not (she does). They both perform songs as duets and some are just his singing. The songs are a mix of old songs and new ones. The old ones are sung in one part of the film, the new/original ones in another. It’s not just a singing film. Famous people appear there. Some changes in lore since these films are standalone from some other DC franchises. Surrealism would concern certain scenes (I can’t specify which ones) but not the whole film (it’s not all a kind of dream/hallucination). Gaga’s performance is considered transformative and sensational.:

Is it a musical?

Early in development, it was revealed that Joker: Folie à Deux would be a musical. While some thought this meant Lady Gaga would contribute original songs, Variety clarified that the film would be a jukebox musical.

What is a jukebox musical?

The term “jukebox musical” refers to a type of musical where all the songs are pre-existing. Many popular musicals like Mamma Mia, Rock of Ages, and Moulin Rouge would be considered jukebox musicals. In Variety’s report, it is revealed that the film will contain around fifteen songs, all covers. One of them will be the classic “That’s Entertainment” from the old Fred Astaire musical. The music cart. Each song would have been completely reinvented by the film’s composer, Hildur Guðnadóttir.

What does the title mean?

Folie à Deux (the film’s official title) actually translates to “folie a deux” and refers to a “shared psychosis” in which “delusion or mental illness is shared by two people in close association.” It’s safe to assume that the title refers to the relationship that will undoubtedly develop between Joker and Harley Quinn.

How was it filmed?

Joker: Folie à Deux was partly shot on IMAX cameras by cinematographer Lawrence Sher.

What is the budget?

According to recent reports, the Joker: Folie à Deux The budget exceeded $200 million, more than three times the cost of the original film ($60 million). Given that the first film grossed over $1 billion worldwide, this budget isn’t considered a risky bet, with both stars, Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, receiving deservedly juicy paydays (respectively 20 million and 12 million dollars).

Everything else:

Another piece of information that might interest fans is that although it takes place in New York, filming has always taken place in Los Angeles. However, it was revealed in photos from the set that the sequel would return to the famous “Joker steps” from the first film. And, although the film is a jukebox musical, it has been rumored that Gaga could contribute an original song to the film, which would be a no-brainer since she could follow in the footsteps of A star is born“Shallow” won him the Academy Award for Best Song.

So while fans won’t get the chance to see how the Joker and Harley Quinn find themselves thrust into another wild villainous adventure for a few months, fans can rest easy knowing that the wait will be more than worth it.
