Japan: industrial production in November falls by 0.9% month/month


TOKYO: Japan’s industrial production fell 0.9 percent in November from the previous month, compared with the median market forecast for a decline of 1.6 percent, data showed Thursday.

Manufacturers surveyed by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry expect seasonally adjusted production to increase 6.0 percent in December and decrease 7.2 percent in January.

Other data shows that Japanese retail sales rose 5.3 percent in November from a year earlier. This roughly matched the market’s median forecast of a 5.0 percent gain and marked the 21st consecutive month of expansion since March 2022.

Compared to the previous month, retail sales rose 1.0 percent in November, following a 1.7 percent decline in October, the data showed.
